After receiving an associate degree in communications from St. Louis Community College and a bachelor’s degree in communications from Washington University in St. Louis, Ms. Jenkins worked at a private hospital for 14 years and then moved on to the Atlanta Veteran’s Affairs (VA) Medical Center. While working with the VA, she noticed many flaws within veteran health care services. In 2019, she was inspired to commence an organization to address these issues and approached 36 potential investors. Among these investors were Mr. Lacy Clay and the late congressman John Lewis, who both willingly offered their help to establish her company. Accepting their help, Ms. Jenkins was deeply involved in the development of the business, from architecture and construction to the overall design and mission. Thereafter, she became president and owner of Veterans Advantage Urgent Care in 2019.
Although Ms. Jenkins’ business began during the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, she has already seen much success. They are currently operating and providing services to a number of veterans in the area. In addition to her primary professional endeavors, Ms. Jenkins also created an electronic record system titled Silver Science, which stores more than 100,000 veteran files and categorizes medical conditions such as depression and post-traumatic stress disorder. Her innovation with artificial intelligence and Silver Science was recognized in COI Magazine. Additionally, Ms. Jenkins often attends conferences to speak to others and share her experience and knowledge.
Throughout her career, Ms. Jenkins has attributed her professional success to her education and perseverance. She has also been grateful for her family, who supported her through all her endeavors. Looking toward the future, Ms. Jenkins plans to establish a school for girls who live in impoverished neighborhoods, which she will title the Courage School. She intends to help young girls build courage and confidence to pursue their aspirations. Furthermore, she would also like to expand Veterans Advantage Urgent Care by opening more locations throughout the country.
